Let’s Go Giants!

Posted on January 24, 2012

Sorry Patriots fans, but Mia and Paige are huge Giants fans just like their daddy!  Mia especially.  She really loves watching the games and asks a ton of questions to try and figure out how it’s played.  Forget cheerleading, Mia says she wants to be the first girl Giant! That’s my girl!  They are both really excited for Super Bowl Sunday!  Here’s our mini celebratory photo shoot.

Let it Snow!

Posted on January 23, 2012

OK, I have to be honest.  These shots weren’t taken Saturday during our first snow of the year.  Mommy was glued to the mac all weekend editing.  Daddy took the girls out to play and well, he doesn’t take photos unless it’s via smart phone.  I took these for our Christmas card way back in October when we had the freak Halloween snow.

One of my proudest mommy moments (so far)!

Posted on December 9, 2011

In 2008, 3 months after giving birth to Paige, I met an incredible woman named Tracy.  Tracy, is a 2’s teacher at Landmark of Ridgefield Academy. She was Mia’s very first teacher and little did I know that day, just how significantly she would change the lives of my entire family.

That year, Tracy ran the NYC Marathon.   I couldn’t wait to get to school and hear how it went.  There I was, a few months postpartum, VERY over weight and completely exhausted from a new baby who cried 23 out of 24 hours of the day, listening to her recount the experience.  Inspired and in awe, that night at dinner, I told my husband I would run  the marathon the following year.  He thought I was crazy.  Keep in mind, I’m the girl who never played sports and has 2 bad knees.  I’m also the girl who has a hard time with diets of any kind and avoids the gym like the plague.  But, like the incredible husband he is, supported me (as he always does no matter how crazy my ideas are) and I started “running.”

Now by running, I mean setting the treadmill to a speed walkers pace and attempting to jog only to be close to death less than a quarter mile in.  This continued for a few weeks and I doubted myself many times.  But every day at school when I dropped off Mia, Tracy would ask me how it was going and encouraged me along the way.

Sure enough, that following year, I ran my first marathon and I was HOOKED!  Since then, I’ve run it 3 times and competed in over a dozen other running events.  Had I not met Tracy, there is no doubt in my mind I would have never even ran a 5K, let alone a marathon.  I am so grateful our paths crossed when they did.  She has totally transformed my life.  I am lucky and honored to call her a friend!

As a result of all this running, both of my girls have caught the bug.  With childhood obesity such an issue and Wii being some kids’ only form of  physical activity, I am so happy my girls are eager to “run like mommy & daddy”.  They both have done races and love to just go out for a run.

This past summer I took the girls with me to meet Chrissie Wellington -the best, most bad ass, female triathlete on the planet!  Mia got her autograph and Chrissie encouraged her to stick with it.  A few weeks later, Mia competed in her very first triathlon (The Mini Mossman) with her best friend Ava.  It was an emotional day for me.  I was so proud of my baby girl.  Many family members came out to cheer her on.  Even Tracy and Rebecca (another of Mia’s teachers at Landmark) came down. More important than how proud I was of Mia is how proud Mia was of herself that day. And THAT is worth a million miles!  Thank you Tracy!  Thank you!  Thank you! Thank you!

2011 | a look back {part 2}

Posted on December 8, 2011

Spring is one of my favorite times of the year.  The weather starts to break, flowers begin to bloom and well, both of my girls’ birthdays are in the spring.  This year, it wasn’t so much packed with shooting as it was with personal adventures.

As a runner,  I eagerly registered my husband and I for every race within a 30 mile radius.   In addition to a personal best of under 8 minute miles at a local 10K, I ran my fastest half marathon ever at the ING NYC Half Marathon. This was also the first time my girls came to spectate at one of my races. I also ran the Ragnar Relay New England with my husband and 5 friends. In case you aren’t familiar with the insanity that is Ragnar Relay, it’s a 2 day relay race that spans about 200 miles. Most people run this as a 12 person team. We, however, thought it would be “more fun” to be an “Ultra” team. Ultra teams only have 6 runners (and 1 FABULOUS van driver/cheerleader). I ran 40 miles over the course of 2 days with no sleep while battling the stomach bug.  Then, less than 12 hours later……

WE WENT TO DISNEY WORLD!!!!   Isn’t that what all great champions do though?  ; )   And yes, clearly my husband and I are completely insane!  This was our girls’ first trip to Disney and quite possibly the most fulfilling experience of my life. The magic in their eyes that entire week was so amazing and I will never forget the pure joy our family shared.

Now, onto work… Here are some of my favorite spring shots.
