OK, I have to be honest.  These shots weren’t taken Saturday during our first snow of the year.  Mommy was glued to the mac all weekend editing.  Daddy took the girls out to play and well, he doesn’t take photos unless it’s via smart phone.  I took these for our Christmas card way back in October when we had the freak Halloween snow.

In 2008, 3 months after giving birth to Paige, I met an incredible woman named Tracy.  Tracy, is a 2’s teacher at Landmark of Ridgefield Academy. She was Mia’s very first teacher and little did I know that day, just how significantly she would change the lives of my entire family.

That year, Tracy ran the NYC Marathon.   I couldn’t wait to get to school and hear how it went.  There I was, a few months postpartum, VERY over weight and completely exhausted from a new baby who cried 23 out of 24 hours of the day, listening to her recount the experience.  Inspired and in awe, that night at dinner, I told my husband I would run  the marathon the following year.  He thought I was crazy.  Keep in mind, I’m the girl who never played sports and has 2 bad knees.  I’m also the girl who has a hard time with diets of any kind and avoids the gym like the plague.  But, like the incredible husband he is, supported me (as he always does no matter how crazy my ideas are) and I started “running.”

Now by running, I mean setting the treadmill to a speed walkers pace and attempting to jog only to be close to death less than a quarter mile in.  This continued for a few weeks and I doubted myself many times.  But every day at school when I dropped off Mia, Tracy would ask me how it was going and encouraged me along the way.

Sure enough, that following year, I ran my first marathon and I was HOOKED!  Since then, I’ve run it 3 times and competed in over a dozen other running events.  Had I not met Tracy, there is no doubt in my mind I would have never even ran a 5K, let alone a marathon.  I am so grateful our paths crossed when they did.  She has totally transformed my life.  I am lucky and honored to call her a friend!

As a result of all this running, both of my girls have caught the bug.  With childhood obesity such an issue and Wii being some kids’ only form of  physical activity, I am so happy my girls are eager to “run like mommy & daddy”.  They both have done races and love to just go out for a run.

This past summer I took the girls with me to meet Chrissie Wellington -the best, most bad ass, female triathlete on the planet!  Mia got her autograph and Chrissie encouraged her to stick with it.  A few weeks later, Mia competed in her very first triathlon (The Mini Mossman) with her best friend Ava.  It was an emotional day for me.  I was so proud of my baby girl.  Many family members came out to cheer her on.  Even Tracy and Rebecca (another of Mia’s teachers at Landmark) came down. More important than how proud I was of Mia is how proud Mia was of herself that day. And THAT is worth a million miles!  Thank you Tracy!  Thank you!  Thank you! Thank you!

As you probably have noticed, I didn’t blog much in 2011.  It’s been such an incredible year both personally and professionally and I found myself quite busy.  So much so, that blogging got pushed to the back burner and I just never found the time to do it.  One of my resolutions for 2012 is to blog more and share more of my work.

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to post some of my favs from the year.    Here’s the first installment….  A look back at the first few months of 2011.  Enjoy!

It was the first day of preschool for my girls today. They were both super excited and could not wait to go!

It’s hard to believe it’s mid September already!  This summer absolutely FLEW by!  As the temperatures begin to drop, people begin thinking about booking family or holiday portrait sessions.  Ordinarily, I do them right up until the first week of December.  This year, however, I am scaling back.  With the exception of the couple sessions already booked, I will not be shooting during the months of November and December.  I will use these months to get caught up on editing, updated my online galleries, designing studio albums and most importantly, enjoying the holidays with my family.

If you are still holding onto a contract for an October date, please send that back no later than September 23rd, as I leave for vacation shortly thereafter and need a couple days to update my calendar, confirm details with clients and get myself organized before I leave.  Please keep in mind, I can not hold a date without a signed contract and retainer in hand.  Thanks!

Monday, I met the T family in Fairfield at the Burr Homestead. It was the first time I had ever been, but I definitely plan to shoot there a lot more – it’s gorgeous! The only thing more beautiful than the grounds, was this family! It was great meeting your guys. Your daughter is absolutely adorable! I hope you enjoy your sneak peek.

My husband always gives me such a hard time that I spend hours and hours photographing other people’s children and not my own. Then it dawned in me that aside from shots taken on my blackberry, I really have not taken any real photos of my own children since Christmas. Yikes! So yesterday, when my 2 year old (who normally hates her picture taken) asked me to take her picture, I made it a point to break out the camera.  I even got a smile out of my little sweet pea!

You may have noticed I have not updated any portfolio galleries since I switched from a standard site to a blog site.  I just wanted to let you know I do plan to update all galleries in August.  I am also hoping to add a few other elements to the site as well.  In the meantime, if you are considering me for Wedding Day Photography, please feel free to contact me regarding packages and pricing and I’d be happy to meet with you to review my portfolio not yet online.

A few weeks ago I met up with Cristian and his mommy for a quick mini session at Binney Park. It was great spending time with them again.  I previously shot Cristians’s Baptism and will be capturing his first birthday party in the fall.  I always feel so honored, and lucky actually, when a client continuously hires me for their (or their child’s) special events and portraits.  I am so blessed to have a job I love so much and one that allows me to share and document these special moments in people’s lives.
